Seeing families running and having fun together is awesome! I ran with my family and it is really a great feeling that there are exciting things we can do other than just sitting at home with our gadgets. I am so glad I shown my kids that running and drinking milk together is one fantastic bonding that a family can do.

Stay fit. Stay healthy. Stay happy.

2016 Alaska Ironkids in Manila launches this Year of Fun and Excitement

Manila, Philippines - This is going to be another year-long calendar of fun and activities as Alaska Ironkids Philippines launches the biggest and most exciting race for boys and girls ages six to fourteen.

Aquathlon is a continuous combination of swimming and running. Seeing kids involved in this multi-sport race is so amazing!. What is so great is the support of parents to their kids and how they have shown them at an early age the value of good health and nutrition.

The first Aquathlon was held at The Village Sports Club in Paranque. The race begins with swim at the Olympic size, 100-meter pool and continues with run with three categories:
  • Race Category with four age groups
  • Play category with short and long distances intended to promote outdoor play for non-competitive participants.
  • Relay Category with two mixed age groups.
On June 4, the second Aquathlon was held at Subic Bay with a swim at the WOW Pool behind Remy Field. I can see the how Alaska had instilled the vavlue s of determination, discipline, hardwork and teamwork among children, as they pursue to take in dreams to become athletes.

Achievements of these children is not just about finishing, it is also about hardwork and their dedication with the help and support of their parents. Friendship was built among the athletes which is one great factor that builds the sportsmanship among them.

"Outdoor Play" is promoted by Alaska Ironkids through their ALASKA NUTRITION, ACTION, CHAMPION Program to provide proper nutrition , and instill an active lifestyle for Filipino children to be winners in life. The Alaska Ironkids Aquathlon encourages kids to swim, bike, and run instead of just staying in their playing video games, using mobile phones and watching tv, Alaska Milk wants to address the growing number of obesity in the Philippines, especially in most urban areas.

The Alaska Ironkids is another program of Alaska milk in response to the prevalence of obesity and malnutrition. Based on the latest national study conducted by the Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI) and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), two out of ten children are overweight while three out of ten are undernourished.
